St. Louis is known as "The Gateway to the West" but in
describing the city's nightlife it is more aptly
referred to as the City of Blues. There are more blues
musicians living in St. Louis that in any other city
in America. Naturally, going out in St. Louis means
catching some live music.

The Soulard neighborhood, located just south of the
Gateway Arch, honors St Louis' legacy of great blues
musicians. As do the clubs in The Loop, a neighborhood
located eight miles from downtown. Here you can even
catch legends like Chuck Berry, who makes an
occasional appearance. More live music is found in the
Laclede's Landing entertainment district. Bars in The
Landing are open until 3 a.m. and feature blues, jazz
and piano bar music. Just 20 minutes from downtown,
even more clubs rock with live music in Maryland
Heights' entertainment district called West Port
Plaza.
St. Louis may favor the blues, but it also has some
pretty hot dance clubs as well. The biggest clubs are
on and around Washington Avenue. The scene here is
wild enough for police to keep a special eye out, so
be prepared for a raging time.
